Aid for Students in and Outside of the Sprinkler Industry
The American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) prioritizes training and education through its scholarship programs. Whether you’re inside or outside of the fire sprinkler industry, AFSA offers educational opportunities for everyone. With a variety of scholarships, you’re guaranteed to be one step closer on the path to success.
Bill Phair Design School
AFSA created the Bill Phair Design School Scholarship Program for AFSA Contractor members in categories 1-3 to aid in training fire sprinkler layout technicians for the design departments. A limited number of scholarships have been allocated for the program and will assist students in attending the beginning and intermediate design schools taught by AFSA. The value of the scholarship is $4,500.
Eligible contractor members and the designer can complete the application together. Scholarship funds are payable to the designer’s employer, and the designer must enroll in the school within the calendar year. Scholarship recipients are ranked according to demonstrated need.
Scholarship entries are only accepted through the AFSA Design School Scholarship website, firesprinkler.org/designscholarship. Applicants must submit a completed entry form with all required information, which will be verified. Applications are reviewed each quarter. The individuals approved for a scholarship will be able to use the funds towards a school in the following year. Applications are currently being accepted for 2026 beginning and intermediate schools.
High School Scholarship
AFSA is delighted to provide scholarships to five U.S. high school students through AFSA’s online scholarship program. This program was created to educate those outside of the industry about the life- and property-saving benefits of fire sprinklers. Winners are chosen at random by a computer draw. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents. In addition, applicants must be enrolled as a high school senior and have plans to attend an accredited college, university, or trade school in the U.S. Home-schooled high school seniors are also eligible to apply.
To enter the scholarship contest, applicants must fill out an online entry form, take a quick eight-question quiz, and submit their form. Applicants can only submit their forms once, as multiple entries will be disqualified. The contest runs from Sep. 1 through Dec. 31 of 2025. Second Chance Scholarship
AFSA also sponsors a Second Chance Scholarship, intended for college and trade school students. This program was created to educate those outside of the industry about the life- and property-saving benefits of fire sprinklers. Five winners receive a $1,000 AFSA scholarship to use for tuition or books.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents. They must also have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. The applicants must plan to attend an accredited college, university, or trade school in the U.S. To use the scholarship, students must start college or a trade school in the Fall of 2025 or Spring of 2026.
To enter the scholarship contest, applicants must fill out an online entry form, take a quick eight-question quiz, and submit their form. Applicants can only submit their forms once, as multiple entries will be disqualified. The contest will be open from Jan. 1 through Aug. 31, 2026. For more, visit afsascholarship.org/secondchance.
